- Refresh the page with F5 and make sure the computer is online.
- On your phone: open WhatsApp and make sure it has internet. If you haven't opened it on the phone for two weeks, the computer gets logged out.
- Try a private window (Ctrl + Shift + N in Chrome) and open web.whatsapp.com. If it works there, a browser extension is interfering.
- Clear the site's data: on web.whatsapp.com click the icon left of the address → Site settings → Delete data, then refresh and scan again.
- Relink: on the phone, Settings → Linked devices → log out the computer. Then scan the code again on the computer.
- Update your browser to the latest version, or try another browser such as Edge or Firefox.
MacOn a Mac: if you use the WhatsApp app for Mac, quit it with Cmd + Q and reopen it. If that doesn't help, log out in the app and scan the code again.
Important: If Linked devices on your phone shows a computer you don't recognize, log it out immediately. Someone else could be reading your messages.
Quick questions
Does the phone need to be on for WhatsApp Web to work?
Not all the time. WhatsApp on a computer works even with the phone off, but if you don't open WhatsApp on the phone for about two weeks, the computer gets logged out.
Why won't the code scan?
Usually the camera isn't focusing or the screen is too dim. Zoom the page with `Ctrl` and `+`, turn up the screen brightness and try again.
